The avocado emoji π₯ mostly means the fruit: healthy food, guacamole and avocado toast. It is also used to call something "basic", and a few people give it other meanings, which are worth knowing about.
What does the avocado emoji mean?
- Healthy eating and food. EmojiTerra says it symbolises healthy eating, veganism and love of the creamy fruit. Emojipedia describes it as "ready for toast, guacamole, or millennial jokes".
- Basic. wikiHow says it is commonly used to describe something "basic" or healthy, sarcastically or sincerely. The top-rated answers on our avocado page are "basic" and "reason for millennial poverty", a joke about avocado toast.
- Pregnancy or wanting a baby (in some chats). A Reddit thread asks about a girl putting π₯ next to a name on Snapchat, and the top answer says it is read as pregnancy. That is a small, social-media-specific use rather than a standard meaning, so don't assume it.
- Relationship status jokes. Older threads discuss "avocado" as a relationship-status joke. It varies by group.
What does it mean from a guy or a girl?
Almost always food or health. If it appears next to a name on Snapchat or as a reply to something personal, ask what they mean before reading anything into it.
